Introduction
Uploading content to Publica.la is the first step in making your publications available to readers. We offer multiple methods for adding content to your store, accommodating different workflows and requirements. This document explains each upload method in detail, helping you choose the most efficient approach for your publishing needs.
Individual Uploads
Individual uploads are ideal for adding single publications or when you need to carefully configure each title's metadata during the upload process.
Supported Formats
When uploading individual files, you can use the following formats:
- PDF (preferably A1 format): For fixed-layout publications like magazines, comics, or textbooks
- EPUB: For text-based publications with reflowable content
- MP3: For audio publications
Upload Process
- Navigate to the Content section in your dashboard
- Click on "Upload"
- Choose the file you want to upload
- Fill in the required metadata fields
- Configure additional settings as needed
- Save the publication
For physical books, you'll only need to upload a cover image in JPG format, along with additional information such as:
- Stock availability
- Number of pages
- Binding type
- Table of contents
- Dimensions in centimeters
- Book weight in kilograms
Bulk Upload Methods
For publishers with large catalogs or frequent updates, we offer several bulk upload options to streamline the process.
Excel Import
The Excel import method allows you to add multiple publications at once using a structured spreadsheet.
Requirements
- Excel file (.xlsx) with publication metadata
- Publica.la SFTP credentials
- FileZilla or another SFTP client

API Integration
For automated workflows, we offer API-based content uploads.

ONIX Import
ONIX (ONline Information eXchange) is the international standard for representing and communicating book industry product information in electronic form.
Requirements
- ONIX files (XML format)
- Content files accessible via URL or SFTP

Security and Processing
Regardless of the upload method you choose, all content undergoes the same security and optimization processes:
- Secure Transmission: All publications are transmitted through end-to-end encrypted channels
- Encrypted Storage: Content is stored encrypted on Google Cloud Platform's distributed storage system
- Conversion Process: Each publication undergoes thorough conversion to maintain security standards and enable fast loading
