Copy and Citation Limits
Limit the amount of text readers can copy, cite, or translate to prevent unauthorized distribution.
Business Value
- Protection: Reduces the risk of bulk content copying and unauthorized distribution.
- Fair Use: Enables limited extraction for study or review while maintaining content security.
- Flexibility: Limits are adjustable to accommodate different business models (e.g., academic vs. trade publishing).
Current Limits
The platform currently enforces the following limits on text interaction:
- Dictionary Lookup: Maximum of 5 words.
- Sharing: Maximum of 90 characters for shared quotes.
Configuration
Currently, these limits are fixed and cannot be configured from the control panel.
User Experience
In the Reader:
- Within Limit: "Copy", "Cite", and "Translate" buttons appear in the context menu.
- Exceeds Limit: Buttons are disabled or hidden. Users must select less text.
